The registered version may be distributed to your users or other friends
that wish to review your files list. Be sure to include the following
files when distributing FLV with your file list.
FLV.EXE - Main Program
AREALIST.DAT - Arealist File
DIR###A - Compiled file lists. ## is a number from 1 - 200
░░░░░░░░░ WHAT IS FLV ? ░░░░░░░░░
FLV is a file list viewing utility with many options and features not
found in regular file listing utilities. Unlike a text viewer, used on
some BBS's or CD-ROM file lists to display the listing of files, FLV
has a main menu which allows you to choose the category of files you
wish to view. Pressing enter when a category is highlighted will
display another screen which will first count the number of files and
total size of the directory, and then display the list of files in a
box at the bottom of the screen. You can use the arrow keys, PageUp,
or PageDn to scroll through the file list. FLV also has a unique way
of displaying file information, such as instead of displaying the size
of a file as 28578 bytes, 29K will be display to make it easier to
read if skimming through the files. Also, instead of displaying the
date of the file as 04-08-89, Apr 89 will be displayed. There are two
boxes in the middle of the screen with more information. One displays
the current file number, total files, and total size of the directory.
The other box displays the estimated download time at 1200, 2400, 9600,
and 19200 bps. FLV comes with sample area lists, and a few directory
listings to show you how FLV works.
░░░░░░░░░ REQUIREMENTS ░░░░░░░░░
FLV was written to support CGA, but has never been tested on a monochrome
monitor. An area list file (AREALIST.DAT), and file list files (DIR##A.)
are also required for FLV to start. FLV requires about 256KB of memory to
run succesfully.
░░░░░░░░░ FLV Utilities ░░░░░░░░░
FLV - This is the File-List-Viewer main program. It is required.
At the main menu, you can use the arrow keys to scroll
through the area list. Press enter when your selection is
made. When enter is pressed, a screen will be displayed
with 4 boxes. The first box at the top of the screen has
the copyright notice, credits, etc. The left-middle box
contains the info on current file number/total files, and
the total size of the directory. Pressing ESC at the main
menu, or file listing menu will exit to the operating
system or the previous menu.
ALIST - Area List Manager. Required to edit/modify/add/delete areas.
At the main menu, you can either use the arrow keys to move
up and down 1 area, PageUp or Pagedown to move back/forward
5 areas, End to go to the end of the list, Home to go to the
beginning, Insert to insert an area between the current areas,
Delete to kill the current area, or Enter to edit the current
description. If enter is pressed, and you do NOT see a flashing
cursor, try pressing backspace. If the description is at
maximum (42 characters) then the cursor will not be displayed.
Escape will exit to the operating system. Included with FLV
are two arealists previously created. The filenames are
AREALST2.DAT, and AREALST3.DAT. Rename one of these files
AREALIST.DAT if you wish to preview, or use one of them. Do
not try to center descriptions either, ALIST will left-justify
them because FLV centers them.
FLC - File List Compiler which will convert a standard ASCII text file
(WC) list, such as PCBoard's, into a file list compatible with FLV.
(PCB) FLV will NOT read standard text file lists, it requires file
lists to be compiled with FLC in order to work. FLC can be
run from the command line. This was done because some BBS
operators that are not using FLV for a CD-ROM like to run it
in an event every night, to allow their uploads directory,
or maybe all directories to be updated each night for the
next days callers. Syntax is: FLC [Filename] [Area] [Opts]
Filename = List filename to process. Area = Area to start at.
Opts = Any options. FLC will read [Filename] specified and
output DIR + Area # + A.
**** NOT AVAILABLE IN UNREGISTERED VERSION ****
The following are not distributed in the unregistered version,
but are available to registered users. More documentation will
be available when registered. These two utility may NOT in any
circumstances be distributed to anyone.

I want to make FLV the best it can be, and this can only happen with input
from it's users. Is there something I need to add (or take out) to get you

it'll take for me to get you to register.

shareware market.
░░░░░░░░░ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ░░░░░░░░░
Brian W. Ward was born in Chicago, Illinois April 8, 1977 (and I love it
when people that I don't know send me birthday cards!). I have been
programming in Gw-Basic, QuickBasic, and Professional Basic 7.x for about
8 years (since I was 7 years old). I have been working with computers,
however, since I was 5-6. Starting with a Radio Shack TRS-80 (for about
8 months), to a Tandy 1000 SX (for about 4-5 years), to a 386Sx/16 (for
about 4 years). I do custom programming for any purpose at very reasonable
rates, and probably at the lowest rates you will ever find. From BBS
utilities (for any software), to business software, to games and
entertainment. I currently live in Lowell, Indiana (since April 16, 1989).
I lived in California and various places in Illinois for the first
3 years of my life. After that I lived in Wheeling, Illinois for 9 years.
I enjoy making clay objects (anything), building things out of paper (such
as marble tracks. YES, it amuses me!!!), and writing software.
